On Finding Inspiration
“When I started 30 years ago, there was no social media, no nothing. My mentors were real-life people like my mom and my clients. The magic was in paying attention, being innovative, and getting ahead of what I knew people would want. A good example of this is when I was inspired by actress Poppy Montgomery’s request to maintain her brow shape on set. I created my first portable kit: stencils, pomade, angled brush, tweezers, and scissors — effectively a full-service brow station in a bag. Now, my brow kits are best-sellers all around the world.”
On Gaining a Business Mindset
“Today is different in that people can search for information online, go to masterclasses, and listen to educational podcasts. My advice is pay attention to what works for you and what inspires you. Envision what business you want to be in, and channel that.”
On How To Succeed
“You have to love what you do. And you have to want to be the best in whatever you do. I’ve found that having the innate desire to be the best gives you drive, health and happiness. Work is not always easy, but if you don’t love what you do, it’s even more difficult.”
On Learning & Letting Go
“I’ve made smart moves, and I’ve made million-dollar mistakes, and I’ve learned equally from both. You have to gain life experience, go through ups and downs, and carve your own path. It's essential to learn and stay alert to fix your mistakes going forward.”
